Appropriate for the arrival of spring 2021, we selected this story for sharing again. It comes from our first collection of the Personal Story Publishing Project, Bearing Up. It is a story of trouble, hope, rebirth, second chances, enduring love, and above all, gratitude.

Elizabeth Chalfant lives in Winchester, Kentucky. She owns a business and volunteers in the community, including as treasurer of the Fort Boonesborough Foundation. This writing effort is her first attempt; it was inspired by the event and with the knowledge that the ending could have been so very different. The message, of course, is to “live every day to its fullest.”
