"The Brown-sign Challenge" by Gretchen Griffith
North Carolina writer, teacher, and history-lover Gretchen Griffith recounts her family’s continual exploration of America’s beauty and history through their travelling game of finding and following those curiosity-piquing “brown signs.”
Gretchen Griffith has been instrumental in preserving North Carolina mountain stories through oral history projects resulting in several narrative nonfiction books. Her collection of interviews is on file in the Gamewell town hall. She is a former teacher and the author of children’s picture books. She lives in Lenoir with her husband, frequently visiting her son's family in Gastonia and too infrequently her daughter's in Colorado. Contact her at www.gretchengriffith.com.
