Southern hospitality can be hard to get and cold comfort to those who don’t meet other’s expectations, this relocated Midwesterner learned in her family’s first encounter.
Janet K. Baxter lives in Kings Mountain, North Carolina and is a member of the Charlotte Writer’s Club. Her story "Horse Whispering for the Average Woman" appeared in Exploring. She achieved second place in the 2018-2019 Charlotte Writer’s Club Nonfiction Contest. Janet retired as Director of Special Education at University of North Carolina-Charlotte. She enjoys her grandchildren and all the horses, dogs, and cats that populate her 'mini-estate.' Janet's hobbies include horseback riding on local trails, crocheting, yoga, and letter-writing.
