Author’s Talk

Edward von Koenigseck

Born in 1938, my first writing attempt was as an 11-years old boy, writing a short story for a school English assignment about banking, sponsored by the local bank. As one of the winners I was awarded a $10 bond, a lot of money in those days. After a four-year enlistment in the Air Force as an electronics technician, I worked as a field service technician. One year later a brother of mine discovered an opportunity for me to change my career field to technical writing. Hired as a junior technical writer, after 12 years I transferred to a larger company, and became the Communications Systems Division Technical Publications Supervisor. Attending college at nights I attained an AAS degree in Electrical Technology and a BS degree in Business. Upon realizing there were no books on how to fulfill technical manual contract requirements for government military electronic equipment, I decided to fill that vacuum. In 1991 I published Technical Writing for Private Industry, which saw use as a college textbook. I was also hired by Florida Institute of Technology to prepare the curriculum for and teach two semesters on technical writing to advanced English students. After retiring in 2001, I joined the Florida Space Coast Writer’s Guild and met other authors who inspired me to finish writing and publishing a childhood memoir, Island Park. That effort was followed by publishing a series of short stories. Another endeavor was creating 92 one-hour history lectures on the New Testament, Dead Sea Scrolls, Martin Luthor, and Flavius Josephus for presentation to members of the non-profit Shepherd Centers of Florida. During idle hours I passed time as a contract editor for Terra Sancta Press as well as freelance editing other books. In 2024 a friend introduced me to the Personal Story Publishing Project where I found opportunities to continue publishing short stories, resulting in “Time To Live or Die.” I am currently working on three books: a supplemental autobiography to Island Park, my father’s biography, and a novel. Between a technical publications career, authoring and lecturing, I have always s been sustained by the art of writing.
