"Horsehair in the Hummingbird Nest" by Janet K. Baxter

 – Breeding for a silver dapple is a bit of a gamble.

I was planning on it, laughingly saying I was going to ride until I was 95.

Janet K. Baxter lives in Kings Mountain, North Carolina, and is a member of the Charlotte Writer’s Club and Scribblers, a memoir critique group. Her stories, “Horse Whispering for the Average Woman,” “Southern Blues,” “A Frank Lesson,” “Cappie, The Boomerang Horse,” “An Angel’s Smile,” “Morgan: Our Escape Artist,” “One Soul Alone,” and “Forest Bathing on Horseback” appeared in previous anthologies published by the Personal Story Publishing Project. Retired, Janet enjoys thread painting, trail riding, writing, and all the delights of her “mini-estate”: www.mountaingaitacres.com

Author’s Talk

Janet K. Baxter

My writing journey continues to be an exploration of random thoughts; life’s philosophies; brief, but very colorful, imaginings; and essays, missives, and musings that swirl within me. “Horsehair in the Hummingbird Nest” is one of those musings that I have each fall as I pick up the hummingbird nests for family display. Special thanks to my husband, Michael; friends (especially my personal reader, Tom), and to Scribblers (Barbara, Betty, and Carol) for their constant support and encouragement throughout this journey.—Janet K. Baxter
